You will meet other leaders from around the state and get to share your challenges and your wisdom. And if you know leaders who would be blessed by this event, sending them is a great way to say, "Thank you," for all they do.

Friday Evening Keynote: Special Guests, John and Jaimi Jones of Edge Ministries

"Better Together"
Examine ways to grow and strengthen your marriage as your leadership responsibilities grow.  Learn to overcome obstacles together as God continues to increase your territory.

John Jones

Some of John’s earliest memories were of taking things apart to see if he could put them back together.  He used that gift for many years in the construction industry taking old homes and making them new.  After a broken marriage, he met the love of his life, Jaimi, an awesome lady from Texas.  John began building a new life and marriage together with Jaimi, this time with a solid foundation based on the truths of God.

John is now following his dream to help married couples break down old walls and build their marriages based on God's truths.  John and Jaimi live in Oklahoma with their three sons and three daughters ranging in ages from sixteen to twenty-nine.

John is passionate about his new love of fly fishing; he also enjoys golfing, and the great outdoors, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, spending time sharing all these activities with Jaimi.  John is a student of life, reading at every opportunity; he likes trying new things, and living a life of adventure on the EDGE with his beautiful wife.

Jaimi Jones

Jaimi loves her life as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend.  Her favorite place to be is in the arms of her husband, John.  Born and raised in Texas, she has spent most of her adult life ministering to God's people.   Jaimi is an overcomer who is happy to tell you all her obstacles but prefers to share her victories.

Jaimi loves the freedom and joy of being in an intimate relationship with her Savior Jesus Christ.  She embraces the challenges and adventures of everyday life in Oklahoma with her husband John since July of 2012.

Jaimi describes herself as energetic, and says she is a passionate worshipper, encourager, wisdom seeker and gatherer, and prayer warrior.  She joyfully anticipates learning to navigate the path God has called her to because she desires to follow Jesus into the unknown places. She is thankful for His abundant and amazing grace, and she loves being a part of His great adventure. She leans into God daily and walks in a hope that only she can communicate.

The OCHEC Mission Statement is:

"To promote home education in the state of Oklahoma through events, communications and resources; to protect the God-given right of parents to direct the education of their children to the glory of God."

Some of the ways that we are working to achieve these goals are through the Homeschool Convention and Capitol Day. But because we can’t reach every individual homeschool family in Oklahoma, our primary contacts are the support groups. One way that OCHEC can help the support groups is by keeping their leaders informed of legislative news to pass on to their members. The OCHEC Leadership Conference is an event designed to build relationships with the support groups and to provide training and encouragement to the support group leaders.

This year, OCHEC Trustees will be inspiring support group leaders with:

What is your “Why” for being a support group leader?
Setting up guidelines for group membership
Peace keeping and conflict resolution
Balancing responsibilities of home, work, church and leadership
Making your marriage a priority
Legislative Issues
Town Hall discussions
Annual Affiliated Groups and Trustee Meeting

Encouraging. Refreshing. Inspiring. Helpful. These are words that came up again and again in the follow-up survey for the OCHEC Leadership Conference held in Newcastle, OK on July 24-25, 2015.

Approximately sixty leaders from around the state met for a time of fellowship, teaching, and fun. Yes, it was an effort and expense to attend, but these leaders left with a renewed conviction and understanding of why they personally homeschool and why they serve as support group leaders. They came away with door prizes and practical spiritual information that could be implemented in their personal lives as well as in their roles as leaders. They met new friends and interacted with the OCHEC trustees. They shared their successes and challenges. And they had an opportunity to enjoy being served instead of always having to be the ones who serve.

If you are a homeschool support group leader, mark your calendar for this year’s event: July 22-23, 2016. If you are a support group member, please encourage them to plan to go this year. Your group will benefit from the conference, and OCHEC will be better able to serve your group because we will have a closer relationship with your leaders.
