Getting Started
Homeschooling is a method of education through which parents take sole responsibility to
oversee the entire education of their children in a personal and direct manner. It is
characterized by a one-on-one tutorial method of education using the parents as
teacher/tutors and most often takes place in the home of the student. While many
homeschool students do take courses outside of the home under the instruction of others,
their parents assume the responsibility for the entire process. Homeschooling is the
choice made by thousands of Oklahoma families and an educational movement that has
experienced explosive growth during the past decade, producing outstanding students.
This method of education is actually a lifestyle, requiring serious commitment, time, and
energy. Objective thinking, reading, research, and prayer are encouraged before making the
decision to homeschool.
