OCHEC Legislative Policy

One of the functions of Oklahoma Christian Home Educators’ Consociation, Inc. is to monitor and communicate information on legislative issues.

OCHEC’s general policy is to support no legislation or regulation from the state that constricts the freedom we have to educate our children by "other means" guaranteed by the Oklahoma Constitution.

Although OCHEC provides services and support statewide, it recognizes that it is one of many organizations, large and small, formal and informal, that supports home education in the state of Oklahoma. In regard to legislative issues, OCHEC’s goal is to communicate with, advise and receive advice from individuals and other homeschool organizations.

Ideally, OCHEC works towards building consensus among the home education community when time permits. Methods include input from our Advisory Board of Affiliated Groups and various e-mail groupings. Realistically, OCHEC acknowledges that opinions must sometimes be given in a matter of hours or minutes. In these circumstances, OCHEC reserves the right to express it’s own opinion. OCHEC believes that our freedoms can best be protected by informed homeschooling community of families individually communicating with their legislators.

OCHEC maintains an Eyes and Ears Committee to monitor legislation and urges interested individuals to join us in this effort.
