College Day 2001

We were overwhelmed by your response to College Day, held at Rose State College on October 8, 2001! One hundred thirty-two students registered to visit 36 representatives of higher learning institutions, including the United States Air Force Academy, John Brown University, Texas A&M University (this was the first time they have recruited outside the state of Texas), and Sterling College of Kansas, as well as 32 in-state colleges and universities.

One hundred seventeen parents attended two seminars covering school applications, financial aid, transcripts, scholarships, and community service. Today colleges and universities look for leaders rather than students; therefore, grades count for only 40-50% while leadership (community service) counts for 50-60% in accepting applicants. 

We want to thank all of you who came to College Day, but most of all we thank those volunteers who helped so much in making this day very special and a great success. We fully expect this fall's College Day, which will be held in early October, to be an even larger event, with more schools and more students present.
